David was the first athlete to sign with NE Distance. Representing Western State College of Colorado, he won the 2011 National NCAA Division II champion in the 3000 meter Steeplechase. David graduated from Western State College in 2012 with a degree in Environmental Studies. After driving over 3400 miles in a borrowed van, David moved into his Constitution Hill apartment in Woonsocket with the NE Distance program at the beginning of September 2012.
NE Distance has been tremendously excited to be able to help David achieve his goal of competing at national and international races. In 2013, David won the USATF New England Championship in the Indoor 3,000m. He boasts personal bests of 8:42.59 in the 3,000m Steeplechase and 4:09.20 in the Mile. While in New England, and when he wasn’t training, David worked with two Woonsocket after-school programs: he ran childhood obesity prevention programs for about 50 kids every week with Thunderkids, a program developed by Thundermist Health Center and the Woonsocket YMCA. David also spent time tutoring and mentoring about 35 kids in the NeighborWorks Blackstone River Valley programs in both Woonsocket and Burrillville.
NE Distance thanks David for all his hard work he has put into the Rhode Island community and appreciates him believing in this group back when he joined the team in 2012. In 2016, David moved back to Colorado for the next chapter in his life and the team will surely miss him and continue to cheer him on in whatever he pursues next in his life!
