Woonsocket Middle School Impresses at the Rhode Island Middle School State Meet

The Woonsocket Middle School Track & Field Team had amazing results at the Rhode Island Middle School State Meet on May 19th at Narragansett High School! Both Boys and Girls Teams placed 5th overall, a huge improvement from last year where the Boys placed 15th and the Girls placed 20th. Some highlights include a 2nd and 3rd place finish in the 4x100m Relay (Boys/Girls respectively), State Champions in the Boys and Girls 80m Hurdles, as well as the Girls Shot Put and Discus. The season officially came to a close with the annual end-of-season team banquet on Monday, May 22nd. This was our third year running the track & field program at Woonsocket, and all the hard work from the kids and coaches is paying off!

NE Distance Elite Team Out in Full Force

Our elite runners have been up to their usual tricks, training and racing hard over the past month. The Battle Road Twilight meet on May 13th saw wins from Aaron Dinzeo in the 5K and Steve Mangan in the 800m, with Nick Ross and Ryan Widzgowski right behind in 3rd and 4th. In the men’s 1500m, Henry Sterling was 3rd in a new PR of 3:47 with new team member John Schilkowsky placing 7th. Rachel Schilkowsky was a close 2nd in the women’s 1500m.

Up next is the Adrian Martinez Classic this evening in Concord, Mass. where we have Ryan and Henry racing in the mile, and Rachel racing the 3000m. Saturday will see the return of the Battle Road Twilight Series, where Nick, Steve, and John will all be shooting for a fast time in the 1500m behind pacer/generous teammate Ryan.
